Leah Meyer

Leah Meyer
Cello

Leah grew up singing along with the 'oldies' on the radio in her dad's van in Grand Rapids, Michigan. At the age of 9 she began taking piano lessons but after a year, decided she was better suited to a string instrument, perhaps pretending her toothbrush was a bow tipped her off to this. Deciding the cello was the best choice, she joined her high school orchestra and began studying with a private teacher. In high school, Leah became more involved, playing in several string quartets, small Ensembles and pit orchestras as well as playing in the Grand rapids Youth Symphony for two years. Leah played in the orchestra at Calvin College her first year there but took a break her second year while she studied abroad, living in Budapest and traveling around Europe. When she returned to the states, Leah decided she needed a changed of scene and moved to Chicago where, a year and some later, she met Angie and began playing with Jackson Daly. She is thrilled to be playing music again. Leah is a recent graduate of the Chicago School of Massage Therapy.  Her musical influences include The Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, Bach, Beethoven, Lucinda Williams, Sarah McLachlan, Van Morrison, YoYo Ma, Tchaikovsky, and Morcheeba, to name a few.
