Maggie Daly

Lyrics ~ Vocals

Maggie can't remember a time when she didn't sing.  She was born and raised in Chicago, listening to her older brothers and sisters playing Queen, Billy Joel, Elton John and The Beatles, and waking up to her parents playing Irish folk music on Saturday mornings.   She started playing violin in third grade, joined the school choir in fourth grade and started acting in school plays and musicals in sixth grade.  After many theatrical and musical achievements in high school, her passion for singing, acting and dancing led to her success in musical theater productions such as The King and I, Fiddler on the Roof and Nunsense with The Rising Stars, a local community theater group (featuring Eugene Dizon, current Musical Director of Porchlight Theatre).  During that time, she took voice lessons from the group's leader, Ann Dunn.

Maggie studied acting, voice and musical theater while enrolled in the  musical theater program at National-Louis University in Evanston, Illinois.  Her education there consisted of vocal training with opera singer David Holloway, vocal and ear training with former Broadway musical director Patrick Holland, physical theater classes at the Actor's Gymnasium at the Noyes Cultural Arts Center (home of the Piven Theatre) and performances in many theatrical and musical productions.  Some of her favorite roles include Georgeanne in Five Women Wearing the Same Dress (written by Alan Ball, who wrote the film American Beauty) and Titania in Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream.  It was during her college years that Maggie began writing poetry in anticipation of future musical collaborations, however, she veered further into acting and moved to Los Angeles briefly in the late 1990s, appearing as an extra in several television shows and independent and feature films.  Shortly after moving out west, she returned home to Chicago, where she appeared again in background roles in several feature films.  In May 2000, she started working as a freelance lyricist/vocalist, including various collaborations with electronica composer Steven Frank of HigHrise Music.  Some of Maggie's lyrics and haunting vocals are featured in songs such as "Moment," "El Train" and "Say Goodbye," some of which have been purchased by Global Graffiti Music.

In May 2000, Maggie completed an internship at The Goodman Theatre and threw a party to celebrate, where she met composer/rhythm guitarist Angie Jackson.  After writing over thirty songs in a month, they discovered that their songwriting was easy and natural for them.  This was the project they had both been looking for, and they began their contemporary Acoustic/Folk Rock duo, Jackson Daly.    Singing her own lyrics to Angie's beautiful music has opened Maggie up to some of the best performing experiences of her life. Having been compared to such greats as Joni Mitchell, Sarah McLachlan, Sheryl Crow, Stevie Nicks and Gwen Stefani, Maggie prides herself on her unique voice and multi-octave range, as well as her 'saucy' lyrics.

Maggie's Musical Influences include Sheryl Crow, Madonna, Patty Griffin, Sinead O'Connor, Pat Benatar, Billy Joel, Elton John, The Eagles, Chicago, Air Supply, Queen, Pink Floyd, Concrete Blonde,  Blues Traveler, Pearl Jam, Prince, Stevie Wonder, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Indigo Girls, Alanis Morrissette, No Doubt, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Sarah McLachlan, Dolly Parton, Reba McIntyre, Wynnona Judd, Garth Brooks, Tina Turner, Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Marvin Gaye, Enya and The Beatles.  Also Handel, Chopin, Bach, Tchaichovsky, Showtunes, Irish Folk, Latin, Blues, Jazz and Funk.
